  • Only OK -- Wouldnt Buy it Again - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

After the leaky roof was fixed two times and I still have to fix the hesitation with excelleration, its an okay car. The tires for life deal is a scam since it requires oil changes every 3,500 miles or the warranty is voided. The car looks great, but I want more than "a looker" to keep me happy.

No granted, I have only had this car for three days, but I just love it. Many areas of this car have the quality look and feel of the more expensive Lexus SC cars. The interior design well thought out and built, but it was the handling on the test drive that sold me on this baby. We took this car out on a slightly pitted back road and let it open. The suspension was fantastic and when taking tight turns at high speeds we experienced very little roll. This car hugs the road very well and the automanual shifting makes it very fun to drive. It is by no means a sport coupe, but is far more sporty than the Camry or old Solaras.

  • Forget the Accord - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

Owned Accords since 1991. I drove the 04 Accord then the Solora. Toyota nuked em with this sharp little number. Handles great at 90-100 mph much like European Cars on the Autobahn. Milage is great, power even. The transmission rarely searches for itself unlike the Honda. A solid car, great turning radius. just lots of fun

There is a problem with rear view visibility from the drivers seat with the top up. The rear seat head restraints all so block vision out of small rear window. The Toyota body is not stiff enough with out the unit body roof, this makes the convertible a bit unstable on all but super smooth road surface. You get a lot of shake car needs improved body supports.

I have noticed an occasional surge in initial acceleration from a stop. The computerized "distance to empty" is 350 miles to empty when in reality, there will be 450 to 500 miles to the tank.Theseproblems are quite annoying - the car has not been returned to the dealer yet. I will address the problems at the first oil change.

  • About the V6 SE Coupe - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara
    By -

Nice car good power, not good in snow or ice. Feels sporty, however its a sporty upscale look but handles like the Camry sedan. Make no mistake, its not a sporty handling automobile. May have been better with rear wheel drive for handling. Doors, very big to get in and out of tight spots, however nice roomy interior for the driver and front pax. back seats are good for avg. person but not on long hauls. Good room for kids.

  • Not a Honda. - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara
    By -

The quality does not compare to the Hondas I have previously owned. The car is nice to look at but the 5A trans. refuses to down shift except for flooring it and even then you have to wonder if its going too. The interior rattles more than it should. The steering is very "numb" and should be more like a Honda.

  • Over All Pretty Satisfied - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

Driving mostly American made cars in the past, I would have to say I am more than happy to have made the switch to Toyota. Good fuel economy, great styling with the right package, plenty of passenger room, options, safety features, luggage space, and on and on. Toyota was not typically a car I would consider buying but when I first noticed the new design of this style Solara it had my attention right away. Being in my late twenties, I found this to be a "smart" purchase to combine safety, pleasure, and price. This vehicle "turns heads" of all ages. "Class" and "youthfulness" are both expressed through its design.

  • A little Better - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara
    By -

Its good car. But given the price tag around 30K, theres a few things to be desired. Theres little fun driving this souless machine. It can be fast but it is not that confident and communicative in the handling aspect. Polarising styling: slabby headlights and taillights went too far.

  • Looks like a Lexus, feels like a Toyota - 2004 Toyota Camry Solara

The Solara is pretty big for a sports coupe. I like it because of its roomy interior for the driver and passenger, but it is a little tight for people in the back. Make sure your friends are 510" or shorter. Nice acceleration for a V4 and gas mileage is good. The design is comparable to a Lexus 430 (which I would have bought if I had the money); the big difference is that the Solara uses a platinum-color plastic mold, whereas the SC430 uses an wood accents on almost everything.
